The Phuket Yacht Club (previously Ao Chalong Yacht Club), set at the edge of Ao Chalong along Phuket’s southeast coast, is a great spot to learn how to sail, enjoy some sea front dining and meet up with with some of the region’s most skilled and experienced sailors.

In recent years the club has helped bring more youth and local people into the sport. One notable example is the success of the young Thai sailor, Patinyakorn Buranrom, who honed his skills in local regattas and went on to represent the the club in co-skippering a yacht in the 2013 TRANSPAC regatta, a 4,100-kilometre race across the Pacific from California to Hawaii. Completing the race in 12 days, his team came in third overall in their category.

The club has a small fleet of dinghy yachts available to rent, and runs a sailing school
